Adidas Taps Ned Flanders Of ‘The Simpsons’ For Freshest Sneaker Inspiration

After its first airing over three decades ago, The Simpsons is about to embark on season 33, having evolved into a pop-culture icon in the meantime. And what better way to immortalize pop culture than turning it into a sneaker?
It’s not the logo-loud, characters-splashed-all-over type of offering, though. Adidas and The Simpsons have teamed up in an unlikely collaboration to produce a strangely, eerily, accurate rendition of Ned Flanders in shoe form.
Flanders has grown to become a fan favorite in his own right. His unshakeable fear of God and devotion to smart-yet-casual “dad” fashion make him an instantly recognizable character, and a part of the cast that the show can’t do without.

In this collaboration, the shoes’ base silhouette comes in the form of the McCarten, a low-top sneaker. Its decorative elements see brown and olive suede lined with pink, an homage to Flanders’ iconic outfit of brown loafers, a green sweater, and a pink shirt.
It’s not loud or obvious, but fans of the show—or anyone who knows a bit about its characters—will be able to pin the footwear’s subtle aesthetics to the iconic man himself.
That’s not all, though; the box that the McCartens come in doesn’t fall short at all. It celebrates Flanders’ staunch pride in being left-handed, depicting the beloved character outside his Leftorium, a left-handed store.
Although the collaboration sorely misses out on a release date of August 13, known as Left Handers Day, it might still be much coveted on its actual release. It’s instead set to come on the 20th anniversary of the episode where the Leftorium is featured: October 13.
