As part of its latest Brand-New vintage series, Converse Japan is aiming to integrate vintage icons “full of originality” with its fan-favorite sneakers. In this, it has created its own iteration of a classic: the iconic Timberland boot.
Bodying the same wheat-and-black color palette, the shoes are a reworked All Star model, transforming the sneaker into a boot.
Made from synthetic “nubuck-like” synthetic leather, it’s elevated by a thick gum sole and backed with a soft collar. Its rug sole incorporates unevenness and a curved arch, which the brand says will “create a sense of volume” on wearers’ feet.

Perhaps the most noticeable difference, apart from the Converse branding on the sneaker’s side, are the laces: these sneakers use the classic ones found across Converse shoes instead of the thicker rope-like ones synonymous with the Timberland originals.
The black ones look a lot less familiar. Their inky silhouette could easily be associated with Converse trying out a new boot-like take on its sneakers, rather than replicating that of another brand’s.

Converse Japan operates solely in East Asia and is not actually part of the Nike-owned Converse brand, Input notes. When considering Nike’s tough crackdowns on sneaker fans who have used its branding as a base for customs, it would be highly ironic for the company to, well, almost fully recreate a Timberland shoe.
These fall under the “hiphop” category of the Brand-New vintage lineup, which is scheduled to release this month. They’re set to retail at ¥10,450 (US$95).
