The Jordan Peele-produced, Nia DaCosta-directed reboot for 1992’s Candyman will finally arrive at theaters on August 27, and it’s been a long time coming. If you can barely wait for a jump-scare, Universal is bringing one to you with the interactive, sort of, final trailer.
True to its story, on a new IDareYou.CandymanMovie.com site, the trailer reveals itself after you call out “Candyman” five times.
Diehards might quiver at the mere mention of the name, as the myth goes that repeatedly saying it in front of a mirror will summon the supernatural killer. And you’d be doing that, with a black mirror.
For everyone else who’s too afraid, or would rather jump straight into the exciting part (still a trailer), the video has also been uploaded so you don’t have to get on first-name basis with the vengeful spirit.
2021’s Candyman, billed as a “spiritual sequel,” propels the horror story into the 21st century, with Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris) living in a posh Chicago apartment. Whether or not the first Candyman (Tony Todd) will appear in this version remains to be seen.
“I really love Tony Todd. He’s iconic and… I will say that what we’ve done this film is great!” DaCosta hinted. “Jordan’s great, and I don’t want to give anything away.”
