In the latest installment of Elon Musk VS Jeff Bezos, SpaceX told the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that Amazon is intentionally trying to delay its proposals for Starlink’s internet service.
Musk posits that Amazon’s disruption tactics are because it’s still not in a place to compete with its own satellite service, Kuiper Systems.
“Amazon’s recent missive is unfortunately only the latest in its continuing efforts to slow down competition, while neglecting to resolve the Commission’s concerns about Amazon’s own non geostationary orbit (“NGSO”) satellite system,” SpaceX wrote in its filing.
Last week, Amazon had gone to the FCC with a complaint, saying SpaceX’s proposal should be rejected as it offered two separate setups for its satellite internet system—which may be against the rules.
Starlink hasn’t been quiet either, responding to Amazon by saying it’s still yet to inform the FCC on details for its own satellite system.
“But while Amazon has filed nothing with the Commission to address these conditions on its own license for nearly 400 days, it took only 4 days to object to SpaceX’s next-generation NGSO system,” said SpaceX, as per Engadget.
It doesn’t seem like this spat will end anytime soon, especially with Bezos’ Blue Origin also suing NASA for awarding the lunar lander contract to SpaceX. Will Amazon successfully prevent Starlink’s proposed launches? We’ll know soon enough.
