Biden Administration Anticipates 40% Of The US Will Be Powered By Solar By 2035

The Solar Futures Study, which was recently released by the Joe Biden administration’s Department of Energy, reflects the United States’ ambitious plans to fuel the country with green energy.
By 2035, the government hopes to power 40% of the country’s electricity with solar energy. Plus, it plans to employ 1.5 million people at these new plants, all without raising the prices for consumers.
While the study did show that such a grand dream was achievable, it still hangs on Congress passing legislation that will incentivize industries to switch to clean energy.
Congressional Democrats are expected to table a US$3.5 trillion spending bill, including tax breaks for wind and solar power, but it’s undetermined if the bill will be passed.
Back in January, the Biden administration had also announced a new goal to decarbonize 80% of the nation’s electricity sector by 2030. Additionally, it hopes to reach 100% renewable energy by 2035. Other than solar power suggested in the new study, the administration is also looking at other renewable forms, such as wind power.
The report estimates that wind power could supplement solar energy in fuelling 36% of the country’s grid, with the rest supplied by nuclear energy, hydroelectric energy, and geothermal energy.
With the world working towards renewable sources of energy in an effort to combat the disastrous effects of rising global temperatures and climate change, it’ll be a large step forward if the US could be mostly powered by green energy.
As the Director of the Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, Becca Jones-Albertus said: “This growth is necessary to limit the impacts of climate change, and our work to realize this vision could not be more urgent.”
