Color standard expert PANTONE has released its
annual trend report on the colors of New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2022 season.
10 standout colors have been picked by the PANTONE Color Institute, alongside five core classics we can expect to see introduced in fashion collections to come.
The 10 comprise an eclectic mix of bright colors, indicating the returning optimism for a post-pandemic world where people just want to be able to have fun again.
A warm yellow in the shade of ‘Daffodil’ is friendly and inviting, while the bold splash of ‘Innuendo’ is surely the beckoning of a good time.

The core classics are more subtle yet versatile, expressing a truly timeless sentiment.
Soft hues of a ‘Perfectly Pale’ beige and the comforting earthiness of ‘Basil’ ensuring that after all the pizzazz, there’s always a reliable base to return to.

These colors “bring together our competing desires for comforting familiarity and joyful adventure through a range of soothing and timeless colors, along with joyous hues that celebrate playfulness,” states Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the
PANTONE Color Institute, in the press release.
PANTONE’s selected hues this year allow us to “mix and marry as we please.” This encourages the “exploration of new chromatic realities” while opening up a world of possibility for “personalized style and spontaneous color statements,” Eiseman continues.
Once hard-and-fast, the rules of the fashion industry are waning with every season. It’s becoming increasingly evident that the only rule is that, well, there aren’t any rules. Enjoy the colors as you please.
