Loose cables are one of the pains contributing to clutter at home. While IKEA has got plenty of organization solutions for that, the Nordic furniture giant likens its latest option to a “magic trick.”
Here’s why. The SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger, which IKEA recently listed on its site but hasn’t made available to buy, is a charging pad that works discreetly under your desk, table, or shelf. Whereas the company’s previous wireless charger required you to drill holes into your furniture, this one is non-invasively mounted to the base with double-sided stickers. You’ll still have a space to charge your devices—you just can’t see it.
Just place your smartphone on the designated spot and watch it light up. Meanwhile, there are no cables nor clunky gear to mess with your home décor.
It’s worth noting that the product does have its limitations. It won’t be able to charge through metal, and the surface you use shouldn’t be thicker than ⅞ of an inch. Purists of minimalism might also grimace at the fact that you’ll still need to plug the accompanying cable into a power outlet, though with a length of six feet, it can stealthily be extended behind some furniture.
At an affordable price of only US$39.99, however, IKEA might be right to call it magic.
