Tesla To Supply ‘Megapacks’ In California To Overcome Wildfire Outages

Last week, it was reported that Tesla has expanded production of its energy storage system, the Megapack, to Lathrop, California. Now, the company has just signed a master supply agreement with Arevon, a renewable energy company based in Arizona.
This will mean Arevon will be supplied with an additional 2 GW/6 GWh supply of Megapacks, ready to be added to its energy storage operation in California.
The companies’ agreement comes as part of the Falcon portfolio. This is a joint venture from Arevon and Tenaska, a fellow energy company, with the intention to develop energy storage projects in California load centers over the next few years.
Having these standalone facilities will hopefully reduce blackouts and power outages for customers based in California, who need a solution to the power issues linked especially to wildfire season.
Although it’s not like the fires were caused directly by them, residents who rely on the power grid often have to sacrifice things, like air conditioning, to reduce the strain on the system.
Tesla’s Megapacks are suitable for this venture because of how much energy can be stored in them. As stated by the company itself, each unit contains a 3 MWh battery system. This is enough to toast 267,000 slices of bread. Seriously.
And now, the company’s increased production thanks to the new Megafactory—which is dedicated solely to producing Megapacks—will allow it to embark on new partnerships such as these and see its energy department take off.
Who knows what’ll come afterwards? We may be seeing the world through Tesla-tinted glasses very soon.
