With Apple’s upcoming Monday event having MacBook anticipations at a high, it has been revealed that the new generation of MacBooks, both the Air and Pro, will feature a notch in its display.
This new tidbit of information comes from multiple sources. MacRumors reported last week that the 2021 MacBook Pro was revealed to potentially include room—exactly 74 pixels—for a notch. This was shared by Weibo user __TiAmo丶 on Saturday.
“The new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros will feature resolutions of 3024 by 1964 and 3456 by 2234,” MacRumors writes. “When subtracting 74 pixels from the height of both, the 3024 by 1890 and 3456 by 2160 is equivalent to an aspect ratio of 16:10. All of Apple's current MacBooks feature an aspect ratio of 16:10, so with the allowance of 74 pixels in height for a notch, this point does seem to be plausible.”
Now, there’s another claim that states that the Pro isn’t the only one that will see a notch at the top of the screen. On an August forum post discussing the new Pro designs, a user called Ty98 stated that the same notch would be apparent in the upcoming Air too.
Apart from this, he said that the 2022 Air would look “much better.” This is because Apple is apparently doing away with the wedge design that has spanned previous models, where the front of the device is as thin as possible and gradually gets thicker towards the back.
Instead, he described the forthcoming design as “round and light,” without the wedged shape.
These rumors do seem to align with other previous leaks, including wider screen sizes on the Pro thanks to thinner bezels, which backs up the MacRumors find. Eye-catching color options, like the recently revamped iMac, are also expected.
