At its Unleashed event, Apple revealed an entire range of new MacBook Pros. At first look, one will immediately notice that the laptops come with a camera notch, much like the one featured on the iPhone.
While it does seem a little jarring at first, this change will free up more LED display space than before. The Touch Bar is gone, too, after feedback from users that it hasn’t been all that useful.
The new laptops will come in either 14.2-inch or 16.2-inch models, offering better resolution than its predecessors. According to Engadget, the smaller version will run at a 3,024 x 1,964 resolution, while the other will come with 3,456 x 2,234 resolution.
As for performance, the MacBook Pros will run on Apple’s latest M1 Pro—a 5-nanometer, 10-core chip boasting eight high-performance cones—and two efficiency cones. The processor is touted to be up to 70% faster than the original M1.
If you’re looking for more space, there’s also the M1 Max, which supports 32 graphics cores, and up to 64GB of memory.

It seems that Apple has heard fans’ requests for more convenient ports, as the new models bring back the HDMI and SD card slot. It also comes with the standard three USB-C / Thunderbolt ports for charging or connecting to other devices in the eco-system.
Elsewhere, it’s reintroducing the MagSafe connector, albeit in an updated version compared to those present in MacBooks before 2016.
Videos calls will soon be clearer, with the camera featuring computational video and 1080p resolution. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is also fitted with six speakers, nearly twice as large as before.
As for battery life, the 14-inch model is expected to run for up to 17 hours, while the 16-inch model will last nearly 21 hours. According to Apple, 30 minutes of fast charging will top up battery levels by 50%.
If you’re thinking of getting your hands on the new MacBook Pros, head here. The smaller version starts at US$1,999, while the 16-inch starts at US$2,499.
