After 60 years of connecting children to their imaginary friends, Fisher-Price’s classic Chatter Telephone is rolling with the times to impress a generation that hasn’t seen a rotary telephone in years.
The upgraded version of the Chatter Telephone, believe it or not, is a Bluetooth-connected smartphone accessory that can actually make calls. As it seems, this device is more for the grownups than a child who isn’t aware that home telephone cords exist.
To make a call, the caller enters the recipient’s digits by spinning the rotary dial with their finger, just as one would play-pretend with the original toy. But be careful not to, say, dial 911 unless it’s absolutely necessary to, because this telephone functions like a real one when connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
The gadget’s batteries, rechargeable with a micro-USB port, give it nine hours of talk time and 72 hours of life when idle.
Similarly, the user can answer calls by picking up the phone’s red receiver and talking into it. To hang up, they’ll simply have to place the handset back.
A speakerphone button, as Gizmodo reports, allows you to chat hands-free and visually sets the device apart from the original.
Enjoy the cheeky promo, designed to flaunt all of Chatter’s clunky self that the iPhone is not.
Elsewhere, the accessory emulates its muse by rolling about and moving its eyes. Ah, to make eye contact through the telephone again.
Of course, with call functionality, you can’t expect the all-new Chatter Telephone to replicate the affordable US$10 price of the original, which is, by the way, still available to buy. The Bluetooth-enabled version will set you back US$60 on Best Buy.
