It’s the wish of many to be able to whisk away into the magical world of Studio Ghibli films. Luckily, you can almost include it in your travel plans. For years now, Travel Oregon has held the destination in similar regard to animations of giant bunnies and rock monsters, disclaiming that its campaigns are “only slightly exaggerated.”
As usual, the state’s scenic landscapes are wonderfully illustrated, with watercolored skies and mysterious forests. However, this time around, they’ve somewhat blended into the background to cast the spotlight on the diverse people, places, and activities that make up the magic of Oregon.

“In year one, we focused on the landscapes,” describes Megan Riehl, account supervisor at advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy. “In year two we shifted to activities. We really wanted to bring in people this year. [The campaign] focuses on people, customs, traditions and cultural elements in Oregon.” The continuation of the Oregon, Only Slightly Exaggerated campaign arrives as borders gingerly reopen.
Appearing in the film are “blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos” of Oregon celebrities, as well as characters inspired by real people, at the farmers market, Lincoln City’s Summer Kite Festival, and more.
The magical video was produced, once again, by Wieden+Kennedy, animation studio Psyop and Sun Creature Studio, and Emmy Award-winning composer Jim Dooley.
