Step aside, CryptoPunks. In hopes to resonate with a younger group of consumers, Playboy has hopped into the blockchain.
This time around, the franchise has created a vast assortment of non-fungible token (NFT) avatar versions of the Playboy bunny, which it calls Rabbitars—“a rare species of rabbit.”
Alongside its internal Web3 Innovation team; art studio Possible Studios; and art and blockchain technology firm WENEW; Playboy generated 11,953 one-of-a-kind Rabbitars for NFT collectors.

In Playboy’s canonical world, each rabbit has “extraordinary speed, cultural sophistication, razor-sharp wit, inimitable intellect, fantastic fashion sense, and in some cases, sexual prowess.”

Individually, they possess a unique combination of over 175 possible traits, with varying facial features, fur, ears, style, occupation-related features, and more. On the whole, “Playboy iconography is woven throughout the collection,” the company notes in a press release. This is especially so for the rarest Rabbitars, who are unmistakably “inspired by significant aspects of Playboy’s art and editorial history.”
The Rabbitars will be priced at 0.1953 Ethereum (US$806) each, and buyers will be given the choice to purchase the graphics in ETH or USD. However, everyone will need an Ethereum wallet for transactions to be processed.
The 3D avatars will be released in three phases. A presale, running from October 24 through 26, will be limited to whitelisted ETH-paying collectors; while two public sales will take place on October 26 and October 27.
