This coffee is a page-turner. To pay homage to local coffee growers, Nescafé Colombia commissioned a limited set of flipbooks illustrated with the source itself: coffee.
Dreamed up by advertising agency Publicis Colombia for National Coffee Day, the animation book tells the story of how coffee is made—from harvest to cup—using Nescafé Tradición, an instant coffee made of 100% Colombian beans, as a material.
Forming parallels with the labor of love in coffee farming, local illustrators Alejandro Uscátegui and Sebastián Briceño hand-painted copies of the flipbook with coffee-turned-ink.
You won’t miss the color, because the mind’s eye fills in the rest. The mug in the artwork below, for instance, might “look” red because we know that’s Nescafé’s color.
“A coffee that you prepare in an instant created a story that you enjoy in an instant,” describes Nescafé Colombia.
It’s not just a treat for the sight. The 208 pages, when flipped quickly, release the invigorating aroma of coffee.
Copies of the naturally-scentedCoffee Flipbook were later given out to customers. Luckily, Nescafé and Publicis Colombia brewed a digital cuppa for everyone else to savor. Watch the animation below.
