Disney’s latest Christmas short is here, and it’s stirring hearts in more ways than one. The House of Mouse has joined hands with the Make-A-Wish charity to grant the wish of a child, whose work appears in the film.
The 2021 spot is a continuation of last year’s Christmas advertisement, Lola. The followup jumps years ahead to see the little girl, Nicole, all grown up and now a mother of two to little Max and Ella. Entitled The Stepdad, the video shows her partner Mike moving into their home and adjusting to this family unit.
Fitting of how many have acclimated to life indoors, much of the family’s time is spent reading, video calling relatives and bonding through mindful activities like baking. Their storybook, gifted by the children’s birth father, seems to magically come to life with moving imagery of characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Moana, Anna, and Kristoff.
According to Mumbrella, Easter Eggs from several Disney franchises, including Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel’s Black Panther, are peppered throughout the short.
Notably, the heartwarming film features an illustration by 13-year-old Dylan from the UK, who’s expressed his wish of being an animator to the Make-A-Wish nonprofit, a longtime charity partner of Disney that hopes to fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses.

The advertisement, produced by New Zealand-based animation studio Flux, endeavors to convey the true spirit of Christmas through rich storytelling.
Disney is also dedicating US$2 million to Make-A-Wish and its global affiliates as part of this campaign. In addition, the film’s track Love Runs Deeper can now be downloaded, with 100% of its sales being donated to the charity. You can learn more about the partnership here.
