Recently, the iconic Chevrolet “million-dollar” testbed car was electrified in its latest makeover, launching it straight into the heart of the motoring industry’s shift toward a more sustainable future.

But this Chevy isn’t the only one breathing new life into its heritage with an eco-friendly refresh. Integrating the past and future of the motor industry is Ford, having revealed its ‘all-electric Ford F-100 Eluminator.’

This is a custom truck that takes the retro style of a 1978 F-100 pickup and combines it with two electric motors and batteries from the company’s own modern 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. This gives it 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque.

Many pitched in for this innovative concept; it was made in collaboration with MLe Racecars, with the Roadster Shop creating its custom chassis. Splashed in Avalanche Gray with Cerakote Copper accents by Brand X Customs, the billet aluminum dash in its interior can be attributed to JJR Fabrication while the welcoming avocado-tanned leather upholstery was made by MDM Upholstery.

Its three-piece wheels are custom 19x10-inch billet aluminum pieces by Forgeline, which are cloaked in Michelin Latitude Sport 275/45-19 high-performance tires.

“Ford owners have personalized, customized and enhanced their vehicles since the beginning—from changing looks to bringing the power,” says Eric Cin, global director of Vehicle Personalization, Accessories and Licensing at Ford.

The truck also serves as a showcase for the company’s new “e-crate motor,” which is based on the previous Mustang Mach-E GT’s traction motor. Each motor can produce up to 281 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Although designed and produced by Ford, it’s available for general purchase and can be used in to build, fix, or customize other brands’ vehicles.

Ford describes it as being aimed towards builders who are looking for a transverse-oriented powertrain that can be used from modern to vintage vehicles in order to “electrify” them.

Each motor will retail at US$3,900, according to the company. More components are also planned to be developed, such as battery systems and controllers.

“Our F-100 Eluminator concept is a preview of how we’re supporting customers as they go all-electric and embrace zero-tailpipe emissions performance, even for our heritage vehicles,” Cin shares in the press release.

The Ford F-100 Eluminator was unveiled Tuesday for this year’s installation of the SEMA Show, an annual automotive specialty and aftermarket conference.
