Christmas advertisements are known for tugging on people’s heartstrings, but just how far can the heartstrings be tugged? That’s the question.
McDonald’s is, seemingly, out to find out. Its festive fanfare this year in the UK, a short film titled Imaginary Iggy, is based on “a heartwarming tale of childhood imagination.”

Iggy is the name of the imaginary friend thought up by the protagonist, a young girl called Matilda. Her active imagination gives Iggy so much life that Iggy does actually become a real being—that is, until the ravishes of time see Matilda growing up and drawing distant from her friend.
“Set to a spine-tingling rendition of Time After Time by singing sensation Mabel, viewers will follow Matilda’s journey from a whimsical child bonding over Christmas rituals with her imaginary friend Iggy, to her growing up and leaving him behind in her childhood; until a moment of Christmas joy helps to spark her memory,” the company describes.
The story’s conclusion sees Matilda hurrying home to find Iggy, who is delighted at her return. Christmas traditions are brought back again, with the pair reigniting their steadfast friendship with a charmingly cozy backdrop.

Already, it’s pretty easy to see why this one has the potential to be a tearjerker—and it has.
Users have flocked to social media expressing all the emotions that a single McDonald’s advertisement has managed to bring up, with some even “warning” others not to watch it because it was so sentimental.
I don’t recommend watching the McDonald’s Christmas advert if you’re an emotional wreck x

Time After Time was originally recorded by Cyndi Lauper in 1983, but was reworked into a piano rendition by Mabel for the video. For every download of the song, Mabel will be giving 10p (13 cents) to food charity FareShare. McDonald’s will also be funding the charity to be able to redistribute around five million meals to families in need come the festive season.
Not a fan of McDonald’s (sorry) but love this advert, NEVER lose your inner child or imagination…it’s what keeps me alive 💜🌟 https://t.co/fX5DgI2LHl
