For most generations, Tom and Jerry was a big part of our childhood. After all, the animated series with little dialogue first debuted all the way back in 1940—so is there anyone who hasn’t seen it?
However, it appears that Tom and Jerry aren’t in fact the true first names of the titular characters, causing the internet to go into a bit of a frenzy.
In MultiVersus, an upcoming video game by Warner Bros, the mouse and cat’s full names are listed as “Gerald Jinx ‘Jerry’ Mouse” and “Thomas Jasper ‘Tom’ Cat, Sr” respectively.
Users on Twitter were left flabbergasted by the information, with some intriguing questions being asked, such as: “If Tom Cat is a ‘Sr’… where the heck are his kids?”
According to CNET, when the show first debuted nearly a century ago, the characters were initially named Jinx and Jasper, which have now been used as the middle names of Tom and Jerry in the video game.
Intrigued? Well, you’ll have to wait till MultiVersus launches in 2022 to find out any other secrets.
