Millions might have seen his work, but few would have had the opportunity to witness the artist deep in focus as he contemplated his new masterpiece. At Art Basel in Miami, however, these personal moments of Jean-Michel Basquiat will be immortalized into non-fungible tokens, connecting what could have been lost memories with the present.

On December 3, video social network Triller will auction off NFTs showcasing rare moments of a “genius at work,” propelling Basquiat’s digital celebrity. The stirring candid photographs were captured by Basquiat’s former girlfriend and roommate, Alexis Adler, who is a collaborator in the project.

“For the first time ever, these rare images will be introduced to the blockchain, giving the world a chance to own a piece of what made the art movement of the early 80s New York City so electric,” explains Triller in an email to DesignTAXI.

The Our Friend, Jean NFT collection will be released on the TrillerNFT marketplace, which prides itself on its ability to cut carbon emissions by streamlining the minting process, with exclusive previews and purchase privileges being available onsite at Art Basel. It’s part of a six-day event scheduled by Triller to run from November 29 through December 4 at BLK studios in Wynwood.

In conjunction with The Bishop Gallery, Triller will also display Basquiat artworks loaned by Basquiat’s friends, who will be present to share “their remembrances and untold stories about their friendship with Basquiat” during Art Basel week, which begins November 29. The show is open to the public, and interested guests can sign up for a free invite here.
