Although Apple has kept most of its anticipated AR/VR undertakings mum, speculations and rumors abound. But a new job posting might just be the most the tech giant is willing to reveal right now.
Following reports that the company is planning on launching its own mixed-reality headset sometime soon, in addition to the hurtling of
the whole world, it seems, into the
metaverse, Apple is reportedly dictating new plans to create “next-generation interactive computing platforms.”
To do this, it’s looking for AR/VR software engineers who are going to be tasked with “researching and developing an entirely new application paradigm.”
What does that even mean? One possibility is that the company is working on its own apps that will be included in the AR/VR space, presumably coming pre-installed in the headset.
In a job posting shared by Apple’s AR/VR software engineering manager, Hayden Lee, the company details that responsibilities will also involve “rapid experimentation and prototyping without sacrificing code quality or attention to detail.”
“This role will push you to think outside-the-box, and solve incredibly ambitious and interesting problems in the AR/VR space,” it
writes. Some areas covered in the job scope also include machine learning, computer vision, and multimedia processing.
Not much information about Apple’s purported mixed-reality
headset has been shared, but it has been stated that it can handle both AR and VR, with other plans to develop an AR-only device sometime in the future.
