If you’re residing in the UK, heads up! The country’s first permanent immersive digital art gallery will open its doors to the public in April 2022.
Named The Reel Store, the venue will take over the former home of the Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper.
According to Artnet News, the interior will include a spatially adaptive sound system, along with an 8,610 sq ft projection mapping canvas that can display vivid imagery with 14 4K laser projectors.
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition features prominent digital artist Refik Anadol, who will present “Machine Memoirs: Space,” as part of a collaboration with NASA. In creating his work, Anadol makes use of AI to comb through nearly two million images of space captured by the agency’s satellites and the International Space Station (ISS).
The AI will then come up with new digital interpretations of our galaxy, with the stunning imagery presented in a “360 cinematic experience” together with “3D audio” at the exhibition.
“‘Machine Memoirs: Space’ invites us to dream of an alternative universe where machines collaborate with humans to speculate our existence and create an alternative future,” said Anadol.
“This is a hopeful future where machines and humanity, in combination, are agents for healing.”
