Fashion brands have been rushing into the metaverse to launch virtual versions of apparel, sneakers, and bags—to which, some might ask: what’s the point?
If you belong in that camp, you might soon take to them a little better. These non-fungible tokens are wearable, allowing collectors to cement their bragging rights to the outside world. ‘NFT(EES)’—as they are called—can be scanned to access a digital NFT and prompt an augmented-reality filter to appear in front of the T-shirts. The project was devised by Dutch online fashion marketplace Winkelstraat.nl and creative consultancy We Are Pi, Ad Age reports.
“Blurring the lines between luxury fashion and technology, this T-shirt is connected to an AR filter that brings the NFT artwork to life,” says the brand.
In a rather apt move, the platform tapped Canadian artist Gab Bois—who is reputed for creating visual metaphors out of ordinary objects, tying the realms of reality and simulation—to design the AR filter. The artwork imagines fruits and vegetables as “organic organs,” and is notably meant to depict the inside of the wearer’s body.
The NFT(EE)s are sold in a limited count of 1,000.
