Michael Jordan and his son, Jeffrey Jordan, have entered the booming non-fungible token marketplace with a new venture, Heir Inc. The company aims to build a consumer-facing platform for athletes to connect with fans through digital assets.

According to Variety, Heir will allow athletes to sell membership “seats” to a select number of fans, who will get first access to digital collections such as NFTs. The platform, which has garnered investment from public blockchain Solana, will release an exclusive Heir token on the network for fans to purchase these assets.

Collectors can join the site to purchase one-time digital assets or sign up to an athlete’s “huddle” to be part of a group privy to releases, immersive experiences, and other exclusive perks.

A “huddle” is expected to be kept to a small group of superfans, only allowing about 0.5% to 1% of an athlete’s social following. This creates a demand to get a seat, which could launch into a secondary market of its own.

“The only way to get in is if somebody sells you their seat. The value of the huddle seat appreciates over time,” explained Marketing Executive, Daniel George.

At the moment, there hasn’t been word on which athletes will join Heir for its initial launch, which is scheduled for 2022. Though Jeffrey hinted that the firm hopes to get “tier-one” NBA and WNBA players on board, as well as up-and-comers from the NCAA.

“We’re being very deliberate with our early-adopter athletes,” Jeffrey remarked.

As to whether Michael Jordan, one of the most famous athletes of all time, will be joining the platform, Jeffrey said: “My dad is a strategic adviser and partner. We meet with him regularly, and he provides guidance and insight ideas… When he was playing, he didn’t have the same tools to connect with his fanbase or monetize that.”
