Samsung Announces Smart Guitar Tool Where You Learn, Play With Others Worldwide
By Ell Ko, 30 Dec 2021
At the upcoming CES 2022, Samsung will be showcasing some projects from C-Lab, the company’s employee venture and startup acceleration programs.
One of the 13 brands on show is ‘ZamStar’, a platform designed to encourage learning music, even for those who aren’t too in tune. It comprises a guitar and app, with the combination designed to make learning and collaborating with your newfound skills easier.
The guitar, called ‘ZamString’, is aimed at beginners. A notable feature is that the fretboard incorporates LED light-up cues, synchronized with the song the user is learning to play, signaling when and where to put your fingers.
As shown in a demonstration, users can learn to play a part on the guitar before adding sound effects, if desired, and share the clip with other musicians and users around the world—a feature reminiscent of TikTok duets.
An entire performance with a “band” can be recorded this way, with each person playing and recording their parts before layering them together to create one full song.
The three other C-Lab Inside projects include ‘Piloto’, an AI that will help children develop healthy smartphone habits; ‘PROBA’, an AI snitch that will catch cheating on online exams; and ‘innovision’, a nursery mobile that can help to detect infant strabismus (crossed eyes).
