Art Collective MSCHF Launches ‘OnlyBags’ To Hawk $40 Designer Shopping Bags

MSCHF, famed for its ‘Satan Shoes’ saga, has now launched its 66th collection, and it’s a humorous take on luxury and fashion.

If you’ve ever dreamt of walking down Fifth Avenue carrying shopping bags of all your favorite brands, now you can do it just for US$40—but there’s a catch.

According to Highsnobiety, none of these paper bags come with the luxury item, though you’d be able to say you’ve purchased something from what the brand is calling ‘OnlyBags’.

“If you can’t consume—and you know you can’t, not on the level you crave, not on the level that has been spoon-fed to you by social media and the meditated fiction of celebrity existence—you can at least attain the aesthetic of consumption,” reads the site’s manifesto.

“If there’s one thing we know from acquiring our bag samples, it’s that strolling down the street laden with (empty, of course!) Balenciaga, Valentino, Rolex, et al is one hell of a power trip.” 

To further stretch the irony, alongside luxury brands are also carriers from brands that one wouldn’t typically consider as trendsetters, including IKEA’s giant blue tote or the local shop’s ‘Thank You’ plastic bag. All for the same price.

While it may seem like an amusing commentary on the state of social media and influencers, CR Fashion Book noted there are actual listings on secondhand sites like eBay where people purchase branded carriers to create an image that may not tie in with reality. 

Anyhow, if you’ve been determined to get a Chanel bag in the background of your next Instagram picture without paying its ever-increasing prices, OnlyBags is your best bet.
