Flying Car That Doesn’t Require A License To Travel The Skies Sells Out

If you’ve yet to get your name on the preorder list for the Jetson One, there’s bad news. The flying car, which doesn’t require the driver to hold a pilot’s license, has sold out of all its preorder units, with a waitlist of thousands to boot. 

Despite the many electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) prototypes that have been unveiled in recent years, the industry is still a ways away from making most of them a reality. In fact, the Jetson One is one of the few that’s actually made it onto the market for purchase.

According to Screen Rant, instead of trying to revolutionize travel like its counterparts, the company has chosen to market the “flying car” as a recreational vehicle instead. 

In observance with guidelines from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), the aircraft weighs just under 250 pounds and has a top speed slower than 55 nautical miles per hour, allowing drivers to fly it without flight experience or a license. 

“We are confident that we can put anyone in the Jetson and we can teach them to fly in five minutes,” Peter Ternström, the company’s founder, told CNET.

As per DroneDJ, all 100 units of its initial preorder launch have been snagged up, with the first deliveries scheduled for later this year. A second batch of vehicles is expected to be ready by 2023.

Interested buyers are already lining up for future launches, with Jetson saying it has received over 3,000 waitlist orders to date. Each Jetson One costs US$92,000, with a mandatory US$22,000 deposit upfront when placing an order.
