Peer At Disney’s ‘Encanto’ Intro Being Made From Animator’s Own Home

Encanto has proven that there’s no need for a typical Disney princess to enamor audiences. The film’s hit, We Don’t Talk About Bruno, has even surpassed Frozen’s Let It Go in popularity, while another track, Surface Presure, is a favorite with the grownups and has unexpectedly entered Billboard’s Top 10 chart. As it turns out, viewers find a bespectacled Latino protagonist with no magical powers, and her vibrant family members, far more relatable.
If you’re one of those who can’t get Bruno out of their heads, here’s a piece of the movie you might not have seen yet. Jonah Sidhom, one of the animators of Encanto, has released a clip demonstrating how the introduction to the family Madrigal was produced.
With work from home being the default then, Sidhom animated a part of the opening song in his own abode. Since there are nearly a dozen characters in this scene, he started out with basic proxy cubes to stand in for the family—which, surprise, surprise, came together to form an ‘M’ shape for Madrigal.
Sidhom also assumed the role of each family member to create reference footage, and his close proximity to his bed meant he could use its sheets as a skirt!
