If we’re all going to be moving into the metaverse sometime soon, we’ll be needing to replicate some of our beloved real-life spaces in the virtual environment. Thankfully, Warner Music Group (WMG) has already got live music and performance venues covered.
Virtual environment and game The Sandbox announced a new partnership with WMG Thursday, sharing that it will be opening up a new “music-themed world” in the Sandbox metaverse.
This will be a cross between a musical theme park and concert venue, according to a statement by The Sandbox.
The music group’s roster of talent, including artists such as Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa, will be expected to make appearances at the venue for virtual shows and fan experiences.
This also marks WMG’s first entry into the futuristic digital realm, an iconic move for one of the world’s largest music companies.
“Our partnershipwith The Sandbox adds a new layer of possibility in the metaverse, with the ownership of virtual real estate,” says Oana Ruxandra of WMG.
“On the LAND, we’ll develop persistent, immersive social music experiences that defy real-world limitations and allow our artists and their fans to engage like never before.”
Later on in the virtual real estate’s planned development, fans will also be given the opportunity to invest in property—or ‘LAND’—next to WMG’s corner of the metaverse.
