Ever wondered what space would feel, smell, or taste like? Well, Coca-Cola aims to answer one of those queries with its new limited-edition drink, Starlight.
The “space beverage,” which will be released alongside the brand’s new innovation platform, Coca-Cola Creations, will be the first of a series of special flavors, collaborations, and experiences that feature in both the “physical and digital worlds.”
According to Nasdaq, Starlight will first hit shelves in the US in both original and zero-sugar versions, before being rolled out across the rest of North America, Europe, and Asia in the coming months.
The brand described the new drink’s flavor as combining the “great Coca-Cola taste with a dash of the unexpected, including a reddish hue.”
“Its taste includes additional notes reminiscent of stargazing around a campfire, as well as a cooling sensation that evokes the feeling of a cold journey to space,” it added.
CollectSPACE reported that the brand aims to highlight its history in space, in particular when it partnered with NASA to become one of the first soft drinks to travel into orbit 35 years ago.
“With Coca-Cola Starlight, we wanted to celebrate the remarkable ability of space exploration to inspire generations to discover new worlds of infinite possibilities,” said Oana Vlad, Senior Director for Global Brand Strategy at The Coca-Cola Company.
“We set out to bring that concept to life through a simple sip, capturing some of the mystery and essence of what we love about space,” he added.
Accompanying the beverage’s out-of-this-world taste is its space-inspired design, featuring a multi-dimensional, light-filled starfield.
Fans can scan a bottle or can for an augmented reality ‘Concert on a Coca-Cola’ experience with singer Ava Max.
Going forward, other “fantasy” flavors are expected to be launched via the Coca-Cola Creations platform, with each available for a limited period of weeks or months.
