CNN+ Joins Streaming Wars This Spring, Lures Early Birds With Offer ‘For Life’

CNN has officially announced it will be launching a news and entertainment streaming service, named ‘CNN+’, this spring.
According to Reuters, the subscription service will first start at a discounted price of US$2.99 a month for customers who sign up within the first four weeks of launch.
“The once in a lifetime 50% off offer allows everyone interested and eager to subscribe to CNN+ to have access to it at an enticing price – for life,” said Alex MacCallum, CNN Worldwide Head of Product and General Manager for CNN+.
Subscribers who sign up after the promotional period will have to pay the original rate of US$5.99 a month, the same cost as Fox News’ ‘Fox Nation’.
The forthcoming platform will feature daily news programs, original television series, true crime shows, and other content about food and travel in three ways: live, on-demand, and interactive.
“Nothing like CNN+ exists. There is no news and non-fiction streaming subscription offering available today, and only CNN can create and deliver a global news product with this kind of value to consumers,” Andrew Morse, Head of CNN+, described.
As per the LA Times, the company has invested US$120 million into its new venture, adding on-air faces including Chris Wallace, Kasie Hunt, and Audie Cornish to its lineup.
The site reported CNN has additional plans to offer a cheaper version of CNN+ that will be supported by advertisers, though details on that have yet to be released.
