Golden Goose has been making strides in its plan to become a more sustainably-run brand, with the end-goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company within the next three years.
To convey the mission, the Italian luxury brand has partnered with Coronet, a pioneer in plant-based and recycled materials, to create an offshoot brand—Yatay—that will integrate up-and-coming green technology with Golden Goose’s sought-after kicks.

Interestingly, Yatay, which was derived from the Butia Yatay palm, also known as the “jelly palm,” was chosen as it’s a palindrome that symbolizes “the principle of circularity.”
For Earth Day last week, the label released the first of its eco-conscious sneakers, the Yatay Model 1B, which is made from animal-free materials, and uses a bio-based material created from vegetables, recycled polyester, and biodegradable rubber for its sole.

Compared to leather, the innovative material produces 90% fewer carbon emissions, and reduces water usage by 65%.
Its minimalistic, monochromatic off-white façade is no less trendy than those made from animal hides, and as per Robb Report, the specially hand-engraved sole lends itself to the “lived-in” look synonymous with the brand.

Even better, each pair of sneakers comes with an embossed number on the left heel tab which will allow shoppers to plant a tree when paired with the matching QR code. You’ll even be able to keep an eye on your new seedling, monitor its growth, and how much carbon dioxide it’s absorbing.
If you’re looking for a feel-good splurge, head here to get your hands on the unisex shoes for US$350.
