Amazon Prime Video Premieres TV Series Just For Aliens By Beaming It Into Galaxy

In what it’s calling the “first-ever intergalactic premiere,” Prime Video “beamed” a 360-degree broadcast of the first episode of Night Sky into the far reaches of the galaxy. 

The show follows the life of a couple, Irene and Franklin York, who find their lives upended when they discover a secret chamber that leads to an otherworldly, deserted planet, and an enigmatic young man enters the frame.

Unlike usual broadcast signals sent out by ground stations, which are received and sent back by satellites orbing the planet, the transmission of the sci-fi series will not be reflected back to Earth and will continue to travel indefinitely towards the far-flung edges of our universe.

According to the company, in theory, this could mean any creature capable of receiving satellite signals 384,000 km (239,000 miles) away—the distance from Earth to the Moon—could possibly tune into the broadcast.

Rather impressively, this marks the farthest distance a television show has been distributed and gives Prime Video the honor of being the first streaming service to showcase its works directly into space.

“Night Sky is all about appreciating both the magical and the mundane in our everyday world,” explained Vernon Sanders, TV Head of Amazon Studios.

“To be able to share this poignant story and amazing performances with those in the larger universe seems like the perfect way to launch this show,” he added.
