Givenchy’s nostalgic collaboration with Disney isn’t enchanting some fans.
Last week, the French luxury house debuted The Wonder Gallery, an apparel tie-in with the House of Mouse that taps into the memories of creative director Matthew Williams.
“Disney has always held a special place in my heart, as it has for so many across generations, countries and cultures,” Williams expresses. “As a boy from California and a father in Paris, Disney has always been a source of meaningful moments throughout my life.”
Although the campaign’s imagery was captured in a Disney park, the collection is set in a fantasy land “somewhere between Paris and Los Angeles,” describes the brand. As such, the Disney x Givenchy capsule channels urban vibes in the form of Disney character silhouettes on oversized T-shirts.

Characters featured include Perdita and Pongo from 101 Dalmations, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Bambi, and Elsa and Olaf from Frozen. The backs of the T-shirts are printed with an image of a Disney castle, along with Givenchy’s logos.
As Givenchy also notes, the range is a “personal homage” to Disney icons, which probably explains why many consumers aren’t resonating with it as much, even though prices of the apparel range from US$520 to a whopping US$790. There are a couple of folks writing, “this is cute!” in the YouTube comments section, but over at Instagram, reception is lukewarm at best, Highsnobiety details.
“It’s giving me gift shop,” one user says. “Really hoping there’s more than just cheap tees with boring vector files… if not y’all really dropped the ball HARD on this one,” another quips.
“What a waste of $595 for something we can all screen-print for $20,” one adds.
Considering the prices, customers also gripe that they might as well buy official Disney merchandise.
If there were a fairy godmother, she’d likely dress these up.
