Having pushed the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) for years, Google has taken to using Drake’s new song, Texts Go Green, in a tongue-in-cheek “lyric explainer video” to once again hit out on Apple for failing to switch to the new protocol.
According to MacRumors, RCS was meant to take over SMS and allow for higher-resolution pictures, videos, audio messages, larger file exchanges, improved encryption, and more.
While Google’s Senior Vice President of Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer, has tried to petition Apple to adopt the practice for years, it has fallen on deaf ears, and the technology firm hopes enlisting the rapper’s latest hit could help.
“#TextsGoGreenhit us different, that’s why we had to drop this unofficial lyric explainer video #GetTheMessage,” wrote the official Android Twitter account.
Referencing the track, which appears on Drake’s latest album, the video cheekily tells the story of how when an iPhone user is blocked, they no longer have their messages appear as blue iMessage bubbles, and instead become the standard green message bubbles instead.
“If only some super talented engineering team at Apple would fix this,” the video challenges.
