Forget putting flowers in your hair—Dior’s latest it-item for garden parties behoves you to get your hands dirty.
Designed by the luxury house’s artistic director Kim Jones, the Dior Gardening Set pays homage to founder Christian Dior’s passion for flowers and gardens. The brand has been letting this affinity with florals blossom of late; it recently teamed up with Birkenstock to create flower-heavy mules.
The fancy gardening set, constructed from calfskin leather, arrives in two colors: there’s black, and a light beige you wouldn’t want to stain with soil. And while luxury labels are notorious for making obscenely expensive versions of everyday items that don’t work, green-fingered shoppers with money to spare can rest easy that the kit is functional.

Aside from a foldable leather stool shaped like Dior’s iconic saddle bag, the set arrives with a hand rake “for raking and leveling soil” and a spade “that’s ideal for digging and replanting,” the label details in the product description. There’s at least the assurance that these are quality gardening essentials, and that they aren’t just here for ornamental purposes.

In spite of this, fans are still taking a dig (no pun intended) at the product due to its steep US$8,700 price. According to In The Know, Instagram users have swarmed to a post by Hypebeast to share their two cents about the launch.
“How [the f***] does a gardening kit cost more than my car?” one user asks. “Hand rake and spade are made of vibranium,” says another.
One Instagram user adds that, with that amount of money, they could purchase a tractor.
“Is this what rich people use to bury or hide their diamonds in their backyard?” another person questions on Twitter.
Shoppers have made their opinion about the opulent gardening kit loud and clear: Why can’t we just call a spade a spade?
