Polestar Unveils Forest ‘Spaceship’ Hut That Immerses You Deep In Nature

Polestar, the automaker behind electric vehicles (EV) that are said to rival Tesla, has revealed Koja, a minimalistic, futuristic building created out of sustainable materials that’s situated in the middle of a Finnish forest for “an immersive nature experience.”
The site was originally imagined as the answer to the brand’s 2021 contest theme of progress, in which architect Kristian Talvitie received an honorable mention before being told his design would come to life as part of the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale.
According to New Atlas, the design—said to resemble a “spaceship in the forest”—hangs 19 feet off the ground on a tree, and was reinstated with an iron frame to support its weight. The miniature space only comprises a small u-shaped room that fits two, with an outdoor bathroom located nearby.
Made out of environmentally-conscious wood and wool, Polestar describes Koja as a building that encapsulates both its “design language and sustainability values,” acting as a symbol of “a shit in both the way we use materials and the way we define a space.”
“It’s amazing how well it embodies our brand values. It’s beautiful in its simplicity, and the fact that it’s made from locally sourced spruce really emphasizes our focus on sustainability,” quipped Martin Österberg, Head of Marketing for Polestar Finland.
While Koja isn’t open to bookings, the concept certainly is “a reimagining of what it means to get out in nature,” combining aesthetics and environmental sensibilities to redefine what the automaker represents.
