While it may sound absurd, many states still resort to flipping a coin to break electoral ties—a tradition that’s been around since the time of the Founding Fathers—leaving critical decisions up to pure chance. However, there’s a price to pay with every individual vote. Emphasizing this, nonpartisan online group IssueVoter has rolled out Electoral Coins.

The campaign, crafted by advertising agency The Community, adds weight to act of flippant flipping. Each limited-edition, “24K-ish gold” coin is poignantly designed to show two sides of significant issues that should never be left to chance, reminding US citizens of the importance of their vote.
