Portable Wind Turbine Gives You Power No Matter Where You Go

Wind turbines have grown to become some of the most trusted sources of renewable energy. Only thing: They are rarely built for individual treehuggers, standing too tall to fit in their backyards or roofs.
Thankfully, Canadian tech startup Aurea Technologies has found a way to scale down a wind turbine to fit right into your backpack with its ‘Shine Turbine’. This mini wind turbine only weighs 2.8 pounds and is roughly the size of a water bottle when folded.
When unraveled, its blades reach a span of 23 inches. It has a mount that can be pushed into the ground to stabilize it and is made out of polycarbonate plastic. Its high-efficiency blades also allow it to pack the most amount of power in a compact space.
The Shine Turbine makes for a handy camping companion as it can withstand wind conditions ranging from eight miles per hour to 27 miles per hour. It can also hold out against temperatures dipping to a low of 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
No matter where you are, you can use the 40W turbine to fire up your phones, tablets, lights, cameras, and more with its 12,000 mAh Li-Ion battery. As an estimate, it can charge your smartphone up to four times over. And as the winds increase, its power increases eightfold, according to Aurea Technologies.
Camping isn't the only goal in the startup’s mind. Breakthroughs such as the Shine Turbine open up new avenues and opportunities for remote areas to receive clean and renewable energy.
