A myriad of futuristic car concepts have made their way to Monterey Car Week, from driverless vehicles with no steering wheels to DeLorean’s newest addition, a four-wheel drive off-roader that looks straight out of the set of a sci-fi film.
The company behind the Back to the Future car just debuted its latest idea, the ‘Omega 2040’ concept at its A Glimpse Into The Future showcase.
The car has the body of what can only be described as a spacecraft that has been mounted onto the wheels of a monster truck.
It is a two-seater electricvehicle that has solar panels on its windshield that extend from its grill to its taillights.
As the name suggests, the concept is being envisioned for 2040. While that is still a long way off, it gives some insight into certain design choices that were made.
Its beefed-up tires and aerodynamically sustainable body were designed for a world that the company imagines would look distant from what it is like now.
The vehicle is being conceptualized to adapt to a completely new landscape with different terrain, where off-road travel might even be the norm.
It’s interesting to note that the company hasn’t gone down the flying car route by 2040 and has instead stuck to an electric four-wheel drive.
It also introduced an electric sedan called the Alpha5 that will hit the market considerably earlier than 2040, as it aims to release it in 2024.
