Mark Zuckerberg Confirms Meta’s Next Big VR Headset Is Coming In October
By Alexa Heah, 29 Aug 2022
If you were already looking forward to Meta’s Connect conference in October, here’s more good news: CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed the company will be releasing its next virtual-reality (VR) headset at the event.
Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the founder said that the new device—which is a sequel to the Oculus 2—will have a focus on “social presence,” designed with new features including eye- and face-tracking that can capture users’ expressions and replicate it on avatars in real-time.
Furthermore, as per TechCrunch, Zuckerberg revealed that while the firm is still working on its highly-anticipated augmented reality (AR) glasses, the forthcoming headset will incorporate some mixed reality components.
More intriguingly, it was said that the headset would enable users to “unlock” the sense of being in the presence of another person. Unlike that of a video call, where you’re aware you’re not with the recipient physically, this time, the VR feature “convinces your brain that you’re there [in person].”
As per Input, the price of the upcoming gadget hasn’t yet been revealed, though it was touted to be a “big upgrade” over the Oculus Quest 2, which hints at it costing more than its recently-raised US$400 price tag.
