Heinz Joins Bubble Tea Game With Tomato Boba Disguised As Ketchup Bottles
By Mikelle Leow, 29 Sep 2022
With spooky season drawing close, Heinz has seemingly settled on the perfect Halloween costume. And sure, it could look within—right through its tomato sauce bottle self—and fashion some fake blood but that idea is so yesteryear. This year, the brand is going to parties as bubble tea.
Heinz in Singapore has teamed up with a boba chain called Gong Cha to release ketchup-inspired drinks, each priced at SG$7.80 (US$5.42). Their tomato-forward flavor profile might be enough shock value, but what should strike audiences more is how they embody Heinz’s iconic bottles and sauce colors.
WHAT THE HECK.

IT REALLY IS TOMATO SAUCE BUBBLE TEA. pic.twitter.com/vXgXHxTZod
The first of the Let’s Ketchup line is ‘Berry Mary’, a concoction of tomato and raspberry with a hue deceptively like ketchup.
There’s also ‘Pomato Bomb’, which has flavors of tomato, pear, and pomegranate. This variation has a creamy appearance reminiscent of the controversial Mayochup dipping sauce sold in the US.
Clearly, the flavors aren’t for everyone, but packaging design enthusiasts might just run to the nearest location for the easy squeeze bottle, which should make downing the beverages a little more enjoyable.
Further, according to one review, the bubble tea doesn’t ooze out when you flip the packaging over. It only dispenses when you squeeze the bottle, so there’s little risk of turning your car into a crime scene.
Talk about a fancy drip. The teas have just launched and will only be around for a limited time.
