McDonald’s Starts Faux Law Firm To Take Down Fries Thieves
By Alexa Heah, 11 Oct 2022
We’ve all done it: sneak a few of our siblings’ or friends’ fries when they’re not looking.
And it looks like McDonald’s may be coming after these Hamburglars, with the chain launching a fictitious law firm to avenge those who’ve been the victim of “fry theft.”
The humorous campaign, developed by advertising giant Leo Burnett, sees the fast-food restaurant’s UK Twitter account turned into a ‘Fries Claims’ courtroom, adjudicating possible offenses reported by fans.
According to The Drum, the company wanted to tap on the “universal experience” of nicking a fry (or having one pinched), and turn the relatable episode into one that’s playful and fun for customers.
“Have you been a victim of fry theft? Justice and fries will be served,” the social media spot reads—though it disclaims that McDonald’s won’t be ruling on McNugget theft, “burger-lry,” or milkshake misappropriation.
Throughout October 7, McDonald’s UK responded to several fans’ claims of injustice with witty replies, commiserating that “one fry pinched is one too many.”
