You Can Now Hike Up Statue Of Liberty’s Crown For First Time In Two Years

Planning a visit to the Big Apple? Here’s some good news: Visitors to the Statue of Liberty will once again be allowed to climb into the lady’s crown to enjoy a breathtaking view of the New York Harbor.
According to NPR, the National Park Service has decided to officially lift the ban—enacted during the pandemic—so tourists can traverse the entirety of the national monument.
Unsurprisingly, people are clamoring to get into the statue’s head, with tickets to visit the crown sold out for the entire month of October.
Only 10 people are allowed up there each time, with about six groups making the rounds in the span of an hour.
Inside the crown, as per Artnet News, you’ll get an up-close look at the inner workings of Lady Liberty, how its original iron support was replaced with steel during the 1986 renovations, and the incredible engineering that allows it to support the heavy copper.
Though travelers should take into account that one has to hike up over a hundred stairs with no elevator available, not including the statue’s 215-stair pedestal.
Those with heart or respiratory conditions, mobility impairments, claustrophobia, or vertigo should avoid the trip to the pinnacle.
An official crown reopening is scheduled to take place on October 28, in honor of the 136th anniversary of the statue’s dedication in 1886.
