Apple’s Upcoming Headset To Unlock Functions With Your Irises To Save Time

New details are emerging about Apple’s anticipated mixed-reality headset, potentially named ‘RealityPro’.

A report by The Information, which cites two sources who have “helped develop” the product, reveals that Apple is looking into iris-scanning for a more intuitive flow. Wearers could slip on the gear and automatically be logged into their accounts, and then be able to make purchases without the fuss.

Their irises will unlock access in a similar way to how the iPhone authenticates a person’s identity through Face ID, which will further enable things like Apple Pay.

If you’re sharing the headset with someone else, this system would even make it easier for people to pass the headgear on from one person to the next without constantly signing in and out of their accounts. 
 
Previous articles have noted that there might be 14 cameras within the headgear. According to the latest speculation, two of those might also be used to scan the user’s legs and accurately position them on their avatars.
 
Apple’s VR headset remains largely a mystery but rumor has it that it will be ready sometime in 2023. To tide users over until then, Meta has just released a new generation of headgear with its mixed-reality Quest Pro.
