‘Buy One, Send One’ Uterus Plushies Tell Politicians To Back Off Women’s Wombs

Following the reversal of Roe v Wade, which has led many women across America to join the fight for reproductive rights, advertising agency The Variable thought up a creative way to spread the message of gender equality: uterus plushies.
Dubbed the Woombie, these squishy, bright pink soft toys modeled after wombs are meant to be as adorable as they are powerful, giving a voice to the countless women who feel silenced by a group of politicians looking to control their bodies.
For every plushie purchased, another one will be sent to a politician known to be working against women’s healthcare rights, with 100% of the proceeds from the sale going towards funding Planned Parenthood.
Want to do more? There’s even the option for the ‘Extreme Court Woombie Bundle’ to send the toys to the Supreme Court Justices responsible for overturning the law, or ‘The Dirty Dozen’ that sends 12 plushies to vocal anti-choice politicians.
If the Woombie looks familiar, that’s because you may have seen it before at the Women’s March. According to LBB Online, hundreds of toys were distributed during the event, with a 15-foot tall uterus erected across the Washington Monument to drive home the point of bodily autonomy.
The ongoing campaign to spread the message about the Woombies is a creative one too, involving satirical home shopping videos with hosts selling the cutesy toys, while teaching audiences the not-so-fun facts about an abortion ban.
“Boost the fun, not the maternal mortality rate,” the firm challenges, citing that a nationwide abortion ban could result in a 33% maternal mortality rate increase for Black women in the country.
There are even made-up jingles that’ll be used across social media channels to spread the word about the movement, hoping to educate and spur the public to speak up for the overturning of the legislation, and take action to rectify it.
As the website puts it, “the game being played with our reproductive rights has dangerously high stakes, so send an anti-choice politician a womb that they can do whatever the heck they want with—as long as they stay away from yours.”
