Apple is introducing an option to charge your iPhone without zapping too many resources from the earth.
The green power method comes with the new iOS 16.1 update, where a new toggle under the Battery section allows users to turn on the new ‘Clean Energy Charging’.
With the feature activated, the iPhone will update its user about the energy usage in their location. The forecast will tell customers when lower carbon emissions are being produced so that they can charge their iPhones during periods of clean energy.

To accurately determine where your energy grid is located, your Location Services, System Customization, and Significant Locations will have to be turned on. The prompts will only provide information on the energy used in the area where it is deemed you spend the most time in.
Similar to Optimized Battery Charging, when Clean Energy Charging stops charging, a notification appears on the Lock Screen with a notification on when the iPhone will be fully powered up. A ‘Charge Now’ option to configure the iPhone to set to full capacity appears when you touch and hold the notice.
The clean charging works in tandem with Optimized Battery Charging to gather more concise data about your power usage habits. It will not be engaged when you are traveling.
Currently, the function is limited to the United States, and there is no word on when or if it will reach other countries.
