Meta Quest Places You Courtside At Your Favorite Sports Events, From Your Couch

You can now get front-row seats to your favorite sporting events right from the comfort of your own home. Here’s the catch: You’ll be floating in the metaverse.
Meta Quest is making this possible with Xtadium, a virtual-reality app developed with cloud-based tech company VBVR that places you and your friends right amid the action, complete with a 180-degree view and up to 8K viewing quality. So with that, you might just say so long to fighting for tickets and parking space.
Xtadium also allows you to choose between eight camera angles, so you never miss a second of what’s happening courtside or trackside. Judging from the promotional video, it looks as if you will be able to overlay different angles and statistical updates.
And if you’re one to turn every sporting match into a fun day out with friends, feel free to invite them into the metaverse with you. Meta Quest will link you up to your friends’ accounts and place you in the same arena, seated next to each other, so you can virtually enjoy your favorite sport together.
The only downside currently is that, as the app is in the early stages of release, the variety of sports available is limited to Video on Demand Nascar races, UFC fights, ONE Championship, and archival EuroLeague basketball. There will also be live All-American Cup Team Tennis Tournament coverage.
Xtadium will also be hosting 2D content, which includes live content from the beIN SPORTS XTRA channel and the World Surf League.
Should this app take off, it could be a boon to fans in countries outside where the matches or races are held, and more importantly, it could give accessibility to those who are not physically able to attend sporting events.
