Twitter Taken To Court For Firing More Women At Mass Layoffs

When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he did so with a trail of controversies following behind him, one of which involved the decision to purge the company’s workforce to cut costs.
This move has now led to a series of lawsuits, including one that claims the social network targeted more women during the layoffs than men.
According to Reuters, ever since the sacking began, 3,700 people since lost their jobs. From there, 57% were female and 43% were male. On top of this, 63% of the people dismissed from the engineering departments were women, compared to the remaining 48%, who were men.
The lawsuit is being filed under sex discrimination in the workplace in accordance with Californian rulings.
Shannon Liss-Riordan, one of the plaintiffs of the case, cites that women were immediately targeted when Musk stepped into power. Regardless of their contributions to the company, many were still laid off.
Liss-Riordan is representing the ex-employees in three other lawsuits. These include the company’s negligence in offering an adequate warning, failing to pay required severance fees, and claiming that Musk has forced workers with disabilities to leave after demanding everyone return to the office.
This past week, the social media platform was again under fire as its new boss had set up rooms to encourage more people to work overtime.
