Saint Laurent Wants You To Deliver On Yum Factor With ‘Takeout Box’ Bags
By Mikelle Leow, 05 Jan 2023
Do you have an appetite for the sardonic? It’s time to drive down to a Saint Laurent location to pick up the latest order from the 2023 spring-summer men’s collection: a ‘Take-Away Box Bag’.
Reminiscent of Happy Meals and Chinese takeout boxes, the French fashion house’s whimsical new carrier tickles taste buds for nostalgia. Though, instead of being single-use, the box bag (meal sold separately) can be repurposed for numerous occasions; its material might resemble cardboard, but the accessory is crafted from sturdy calfskin leather.
Serving as a feast for the eyes, the faux packaging is dotted with the YSL monogram, with branded hardware on the front. Unwrapping it is the most fun part—you separate the ears from the box, just as you would with regular takeout, and you don’t get any paper cuts.
Inside, the bag proves capable of holding more than nuggets and fries (don’t try this, kids!). It’s protected by a suede lining and includes a patch pocket to hold your keys.
For the sake of visuals, the Saint Laurent Take-Away Box Bag comes without straps—a feature one will expect if they’re shelling out US$1,890 for the fashion set meal. You can order it in two options: black and a dusty vintage brown gold leather that’s been “vegetable-tanned.” Throughout our entire lives, we’ve only known ketchup-stained.
Saint Laurent’s takeout box comes hot on the heels of disposable-inspired non-disposables doled out by other luxury labels, most notably Balenciaga’s Lay’s potato chip bag.
