Spotify Lets You Build A ‘Time Capsule’ You Can Only Open Later
By Mikelle Leow, 05 Jan 2023
If there’s anything 2022 had proven, it’s that a lot can change in the space of a year. Exactly one year from now, all the events from 2023 will have overwhelmed your memory of reading this article today (if your 2024 self still remembers this, drop us a tweet).
Spotify wants to bottle up your thoughts and emotions as they are at this moment with a digital time capsule you can only open in the new year of 2024, not long after you would have discovered your Spotify Wrapped summary.
The new experience, called Playlist in a Bottle, “captures who you are musically right now” and lets you revisit this version of yourself a year later.
To start collecting audio memories, head over to timecapsule.spotify.com from your mobile device. Here, you can select the time capsule that best represents you, whether it is a bottle, teddy bear, gumball machine, lunch box, or jean pocket.
You’ll then be led to answer a few song-inspired prompts, such as “a song you’re going to kiss someone to this year” and “a song that reminds you of your favorite person.”
Your personalized time capsule will be generated and then locked away, only to be excavated in January 2024.
Playlist in a Bottle is available in 27 markets—namely the US, UK, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Saudia Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the UAE.
Be sure to brew your bottle soon, as Spotify will cork the time capsule service on January 31 this year.
